The Laylatul Qadr Dua — Arabic & Meaning
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
The dua taught by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to Aisha specifically for Laylatul Qadr — the Night of Power worth more than 1,000 months. Essential for every Ramadan.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Aisha (RA) once asked the Prophet ﷺ what she should say if she happened to know which night was Laylatul Qadr. In response, he taught her this short but comprehensive supplication — one focused entirely on seeking Allah's forgiveness.
"O Messenger of Allah, if I know which night is Laylatul Qadr, what should I say?" He said: "Say: Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni."
— Aisha (RA), Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3513Worship on this single night outweighs the reward of over 83 years of ordinary worship.
Laylatul Qadr marks the night the Quran began its revelation to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
The angels and the Spirit descend on this night, bringing peace and blessings until dawn.
Sins are forgiven for those who stand in prayer on this night with faith and sincere hope for reward.
"The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn."
— Quran 97:3-5The Prophet ﷺ directed the search to the last ten nights of Ramadan, specifically the odd-numbered nights — the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th. Many scholars place particular emphasis on the 27th night, though the exact night is kept unknown so that believers strive throughout the whole period rather than only one night.
"Seek it in the last ten nights of Ramadan, on the odd nights."
